Bratislava (in Hungarian: Pozsony) was the capital of Hungary in the 16th
and 17th Century. Péter Pázmány (October 4, 1570- March 19, 1637) was a Hungarian philosopher, theologian, and statesman. He was an important figure of the Counter-Reformation in Royal Hungary. In 1635, Pázmány founded a university at Nagyszombat (today: Trnava, Slovakia), which is the predecessor of the present Eötvös University (Budapest, Hungary). The Eötvös University celebrates the 375th anniversary of the foundation of the university in 2010.
