The Fourth Age of Quantum Chemistry on the Cover of PCCP

The Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (PCCP), one of the leading journals of the Royal Society of Chemistry, has the highest impact factor in the world among the general physical chemistry journals. In the third issue of 2012, an invited “perspective” article of Professor Attila Császár’s research group (Gábor Czakó, Csaba Fábri, Tibor Furtenbacher, Edit Mátyus, Tamás Szidarovszky) was featured on the cover of the journal.
The six members of the Laboratory of Molecular Structure and Dynamics reviewed their own work performed during the past five years. The title of the paper is based on the fact that recent methodological developments allow bridging the gap between theory and experiment by considering the motion of the electrons as well as that of the nuclei as quantum particles. This represents a significant improvement over the techniques of the first three ages of quantum chemistry, where most quantum chemistry practitioners considered only the electronic-motion problem. The paper has received widespread attention, it was the most downloaded PCCP article for several weeks in December 2011 and January 2012. The full text of the perspective (Attila G. Császár, Csaba Fábri, Tamás Szidarovszky, Edit Mátyus, Tibor Furtenbacher, and Gábor Czakó, The fourth age of quantum chemistry: molecules in motion, Phys. Chem. Chem.
