Students with completed secondary school education—having
received the equivalent of General Certificate of Education (UK) or high school
diploma (US)—or with at least three completed years of the usual four
years of secondary school education (aged 17, in countries where the last
year of secondary education is a pre-university program) can apply for the
two-semester pre-university program. The prerequisite of acceptance is a good
command of English, and preference for the subjects of Chemistry, Mathematics
and Physics which are the subjects of the pre-university program in this order
of significance.
The pre-university program is offered in two organisational forms:
- The two semester form is organised in the first and second semester as ten week programs each from the beginning of October to the middle of December (first semester) and from the beginning of February till the beginning of April (second semester).
- The one semester form is organised as a single 12 week intense program from the beginning of February till the end of April.
Succesful completion of either type of the pre-university programs automatically gives the right for admission to start the ten-semester integrated MSc program.
The
six-semester BSc program (jump to
details)
Students with completed secondary school education—having received the
equivalent of General Certificate of Education (UK) or high school diploma
(US), including the pre-university program in countries where that exists—can
apply for this program. Our curriculum for the BSc degree ensures a firm and broad basic
education in chemistry and science. Those completing this degree course will
be able to enter the four-semester MSc program
if they wish.
The four-semester
MSc program (jump
to details)
Students with BSc degree follow the specialized section of the
curriculum choosing one of the directions (sub directions) of specialization.
Their curriculum is organized individually as described below. For students
with BSc degree the minimum official duration of the MSc program is four semesters.
However, according to our experience they usually need 6 semesters to get
the degree. This is because due to differences between universities it is
almost always necessary to develop the student’s knowledge by taking
up catch-up programs that are essential for the chosen special direction.
With all other aspects of the work to prepare the thesis, the usual duration
of studies for MSc degree for students with BSc diploma (from universities
other than ELTE) can be expected to last for six semesters.
The PhD program (jump to details)
The Chemistry PhD school includes 3 programs. The duration of
studies is 3 years. During this period organized programs are given and the
term ends with a final examination and submission and defense of the thesis
work.
