Organometallic Chemistry
Attainment target:Inroduction to the basics of organometallic
chemistry and preparation for the "Inorganic and Organometallic Synthetic
Laboratory Course" as well as for the "Advanced Organometallic Chemistry"
lectures.
Detailed programme:Basic principles and definitions. The
main types of the metal-carbon bond. The main groups of metal organyls. Stability
of organometallics. Compounds with sigma-donor ligands: structure and bonding,
preparations and chemical properties. Compounds with pi-donor ligands: structure
and bonding, preparations and chemical properties. Organometallic catalysis.
Advanced Organometallic Chemistry
Attainment target: The course allows the students to study
in depth the most recent results in the research and applications of organometallic
compounds. This knowledge is of equal importance in the research laboratory
and in the field of applied chemistry.
Detailed programme: Organometallic derivatives of the main
group elements with emphasis on pi-complexes, and on compounds with element-carbon
and element-element multiple bonds. Sigma-bonded organometallic compounds
of transition metals, compounds containing multiple bonds between metal
atoms. Manipulations and experimental techniques in handling and preparation
of organometallic compounds, advanced industrialal applications, MOCVD. Mass
spectroscopy of metal organyls. Gas phase inorganic and organometallic chemistry.
Inorganic and Organometallic Synthetic Laboratory
Course
Attainment target:Preparation of inorganic and organometallic
compounds. Synthetic principles and methods.
Detailed programme: Electrochemical reactions: cathodic reduction.
Study of molecular oxygen fixation. Synthesis of metal carbonyls.
Reduction by using dissolving metal. Synthesis of organometallic compounds
by using anionic alkyating agent. Transition metal ?sandwich? compounds.
Use of organometallic reagent in organic synthesis. Preparation and reactions
of transition metal organyls. Transition metal catalysis. Chemical Vapour
Deposition. Organometallic photochemistry. Reactions in MW field.
Inorganic and Organometallic Special Laboratory
Practice
Attainment target: To gain experience in preparations and
manipulations carried out at low temperatures, in high vacuum and inert atmosphere
(Schlenk technique). Sample preparation of air sensitive compounds by use
of dry box. Structural investigations of the syntesized compounds by multi-nuclear
NMR, FT-IR and UPS methods.
Detailed programme:Synthesis of main group and transition
metal organic derivatives. Recording and interpretation of their FT-IR, multi
nuclear (1H, 13C, 15N, 17O, 29Si) NMR and UPS spectra. MOCVD of hard coatings.
Imvestigation of reactive intermediates. Preparation of mixed oxides and complexes
as precursors for metallic and superconducting materials. Determinations of
organic and inorganic contaminants in air, water and soil samples.
Photoionization Techniques
Attainment target:The course introduces students to the
basic principles and applications of UV Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The knowledge
provided can be helpful for graduate and PhD studies as well as for any
other fields of professional activity in succession of university studies.
Detailed programme:Photoionization and basic principles.
Instrumentation. The photoelectron spectrum, factors influencing the band
shape. The Koopmans' theorem, interpretation of spectra. Chemical applications
of photoelectron spectroscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), method
based on zero kinetic energy analysis (ZEKE), photoelectron-photoion coincidence
(PEPICO).
